Bay Buchanan Quitting Politics for Real Estate

Former U.S. Treasurer Bay Buchanan is out of presidential politics for good, she says, and now is working in real estate.

“It was so tough. It was brutal,” Buchanan told The Washington Examiner of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s loss in November to President Barack Obama. She served as a Romney adviser and appeared frequently on TV as a Romney surrogate. “It's the toughest because we really expected to win it."

Buchanan, who also ran her brother Pat’s three presidential campaigns, served as U.S treasurer during the Reagan administration. “I thought to myself in November, I have another career in me,” Buchanan said.

She started an online real estate course two days after the election and — with real estate license in tow — now joins McEnearney Associates Inc. as a sales associate in McLean, Va., The Examiner reports.

Buchanan also recently released her book, “Bay & Her Boys: Unexpected Lessons I Learned as a (Single) Mom.”

And the Washington native soon will have licenses to sell real estate in D.C. and Maryland.

“I've lived in all three,” Buchanan said. “Compared to what I did in the past, this is an easy sell.”

Though she’ll continue to follow politics and give speeches, Buchanan won’t be doing anymore TV debates. “It's so negative — and TV is more difficult than ever in the sense that it's really not an honest debate anymore,” she told The Examiner.

“I can't just live my life going on TV and being angry all the time,” she added.
