Former Sen. Barbara Boxer predicted Roy Moore, the Alabama Republican candidate for Senate, will be expelled if he is elected, Time magazine reported.
Democrat Doug Jones is running against Moore in the Dec. 12 election. Moore is facing allegations that he had inappropriate relationships with teenaged girls when he was in his 30s.
"If they send a child molester into the United States Senate, the Ethics Committee will conduct an investigation that will leave no stone unturned," said Boxer, who had represented California in the Senate from 1993-2016.
"They will reveal other issues and Roy Moore will be expelled, and he'll be lucky if he doesn't have criminal charges filed after that's over."
She maintained the process would "devastate" the Republican Party, Time reported.
Al.com noted that shortly after the Moore allegations went public, there were questions whether the Senate could refuse to seat him in the event he wins. However, it said some senators said they would work to expel him from the Senate.
Meanwhile, Boxer won't offer any advice to Democratic lawmakers on how to handle allegations against Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., who has been accused of harassing staffers and Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., who is accused of groping women.
"I'm not going to tell people what to say or what to do," she said. "They do what's in their heart and in their mind . . . But they pay the price for that if people don't agree with them."
