On Jan. 23, 2017, his third full day in office, President Donald Trump imposed his bold, jagged signature onto an executive order withdrawing the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

"We've been talking about this for a long time," Trump said. It was indeed the fulfillment of a campaign pledge that for Trump was somewhere near the top of the catechism of his populist-nationalist ideology and that of Breitbart.com, the Internet-age bible of right-wing populism that had done so much to help elect him.
