On Tuesday, Politico reported that pro-Trump livestreamer, Anthime "Baked Alaska" Gionet, was sentenced to 60 days in prison for his "shocking" conduct at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Gionet made a "mockery of democracy" while live-streaming through the Capitol, U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden, a President Donald Trump appointee, said.
Last year, Gionet pleaded guilty to "parading" through Capitol grounds. But in Gionet's recent trial, McFadden agreed with prosecutors that the defendant's conduct stood out among other rioters for its audacity. In the buildup to Jan. 6, Gionet arrived in Washington livestreaming his trip to the Capitol.
While livestreaming, Gionet approached the Capitol. His viewers informed him that Trump supporters had begun entering the building and were engaged in physical confrontations with law enforcement. Soon the livestreamer was seen entering the Capitol.
Once inside the Capitol, Gionet entered the "hideaway" office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., where he picked up a phone and pretended to dial other senators. As Politico adds, Gionet repeatedly suggested that rioters should camp inside the building and that Trump would be pleased his supporters were fighting on his behalf.
It's "pretty shocking behavior, sir," McFadden stated.
