President Barack Obama played golf over the weekend with leading Democratic lobbyist Joe Neill, who counts the private equity firm Bain Capital as one of his clients.
The president hit the links on Saturday at the exclusive Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va., in a foursome with O'Neill, president and CEO of the lobbying and public affairs firm Public Strategies Washington,
Politico reports.
Bain Capital was co-founded by Mitt Romney, who lost to Obama in the 2012 presidential election. Romney left the financial firm in 1999.
During the election, the president often attacked Romney's work at Bain Capital, and in one campaign ad, a former mill worker called the firm "a vampire" that destroyed his livelihood, Politico reports.
O'Neill's PSW clients also include Bristol-Myers Squibb, the Edison Electric Institute, Lockheed Martin, and several other large companies.
Obama's other two playing partners were U.S. Trade Rep. Ron Kirk, a Democrat, and Milton Carroll of CenterPoint Energy.
The White House declined to comment on Obama's friendship with O'Neill and did not report on what Obama scored for the round.
