Autopsy results on three victims of the gas attack carried out in Syria Tuesday show signs of the prohibited chemical agent Sarin, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Analysis from a Turkish criminal forensics teams observed by United Nations specialists, showed that the three victims, of at least 85, had heavier lungs than normal, suffered from internal bleeding, and contained an abnormal amount of fluid.
"Based on the test results, evidence was detected in patients which leads one to think they were exposed to a chemical substance [Sarin]," the ministry said.
The results were released the same day that Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said, "The autopsies' results establish that chemical weapons were used. The forensic report presents this in a very clear way," according to state-run media outlet Anadolu. Bozdag also said, "Assad's use of chemical weapons is established through this scientific examination."
Fox News medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel told the network that "the descriptions from the witnesses are consistent with Sarin gas exposure."
Siegel explained that "the most common cause of death is respiratory arrest, because the lungs keep getting the signal, you end up with bronchoconstriction and you can't get air in and out. There is a tremendous amount of secretion in the lungs like mucus that blocks everything," similar to an asthma attack.
