"Exotic" batteries bought online from Asia were a hallmark of the bombs made by the now-deceased Austin suspect and also helped authorities track him down, NBC News is reporting.
"These weren't your store-bought Duracells," an official told NBC.
The batteries helped lead authorities to Mark Anthony Conditt early Wednesday, an event that ended with the 24-year-old blowing himself up in his car as authorities approached.
The death of Conditt put an end to weeks of terror in the capital city of Texas as 350 local and federal law enforcement agents worked nonstop to identify the person responsible for deaths and numerous injuries.
The final break for authorities came when Conditt turned on his cell phone early Wednesday, allowing them to track his location, NBC reports.
