PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Bureau
of Investigation is probing an incident on a Delta Air Lines
flight from Japan involving suspicious items, the FBI
said Tuesday.
The FBI, which is working with Customs and Border
Protection, the Transportation Security Administration, the
Port of Portland and Delta, said the suspicious items were not
explosive, but did not give any further details.
The flight arrived at Portland International Airport at
about 8:00 a.m. PDT (11 a.m. EDT) Tuesday, according to the
FBI, with 155 passengers and 10 crew members on board.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are processing
the passengers and baggage through security and FBI agents are
interviewing passengers and crew members, the FBI said.
U.S. authorities are on high alert for explosives aboard
airliners after two parcel bombs addressed to Jewish
institutions in Chicago were intercepted last week on cargo
planes in Britain and Dubai. The mail bombs were thought to be
the work of al Qaeda's Yemen-based arm.
