A new app available through China's WeChat messenger shows "a map of deadbeat debtors" within 500 meters of the user, who is then encouraged to report those that look like they can pay.
"It's a part of our measures to enforce our rulings and create a socially credible environment," said a spokesman for the Higher People's Court in the northern province of Hebei, on Monday, according to China Daily.
The app shows a debtor's name, national identification number, and the reason they were added to the list of debtors. If they seem able to repay their debts, the user can report the person to the authorities.
China is also developing a social credit system, in which each Chinese citizen would be assigned a credit score based on their behavior, in another attempt to crackdown on citizens' misbehavior.
