Harry Potter series author J.K. Rowling apologized Monday for tweets that falsely accused President Donald Trump of ignoring a handicapped child at a White House event.
Last Friday, Rep. Pramila Jayapal's deputy communications director, Ansel Herz. tweeted out a misleading video – since deleted – that appeared to show the president ignoring the child in a wheelchair, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
But the full video showed Trump specifically sought out the child.
Rowling retweeted Herz's post, commenting: "when someone shows you who they are, believe them," a quote from Maya Angelou, the Free Beacon reported.
On Monday, she blasted out a four-tweet mea culpa.
She did not apologize to Trump.
Rowling also said she had deleted almost all of her original tweets shaming the president.
PolitiFact gave her original tweets a "pants on fire" rating.
