Anita Hill said she could see herself voting for Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden – despite his treatment of her sexual harassment allegations in 1991 hearings for then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas – and his less than enthusiastic recent apology.

In an excerpt from her interview with NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell, Hill answered “of course I could” to the question about whether she would consider voting for the former vice president.

She also said it was doubted her rueful remarks about him has affected his popularity.

“I’m not sure that anything I said has hurt Joe Biden’s campaign,” Hill said. “He is still leading in the polls against [President] Donald Trump, and all the other candidates on the Democratic ticket.”

Biden has been widely criticized for his treatment of Hill when he was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee during her testimony at the nomination hearings for Thomas. He expressed remorse in March, and spoke to her privately.

Hill, who is now a Brandeis University professor, said her point in discussing Biden’s treatment of her was “to make the public aware of the urgency of this issue.”

“We’ve had years now to grapple with this as a society and I think we need to take advantage of the moment,” Hill said.
