Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., slammed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for saying she thinks the Department of Homeland Security should be shuttered, calling her comments "outrageous."
"I just don't know how extreme you can keep going," Rep. Biggs told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "To eliminate the whole Department of Homeland security seems so outrageous to me."
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez last week told New Yorker Radio the agency, formed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, should be abolished because the United States needs to "undo a lot of the egregious mistakes that the (George W.) Bush administration did."
She also argued the DHS should not have been created at all.
"Don't forget, she doesn't want any internal enforcement for ICE," Biggs commented. "DHS has done, for better or worse, a pretty doggone good job quelling terrorist attacks in this country, as they were supposed to do. It is trying to enforce the laws. I don't know where she's coming from actually. I can't conceive of it."
Ocasio-Cortez also has commented immigrants should not be detained if they have not harmed someone, and Biggs said that means she wants to "scrap law."
"I give you this, it is a quasi-libertarian point of view, but it is also anarchy," Biggs said. "There are no borders, no laws internally . . . actually, I think that is her position ultimately, based on all the comments that she has said. That is just antithetical to the greatness of the United States of America and what we need to do."
