Vindman Tops Moody in Early Florida Fundraising

By    |   Wednesday, 01 April 2026 12:48 PM EDT

Alexander Vindman, a retired Army lieutenant colonel and former National Security Council aide, has raised $8.2 million for his bid for U.S. Senate in Florida since launching his campaign as a Democrat two months ago, his campaign announced Wednesday.

The total outpaces the Republican incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody's full-year 2025 fundraising, according to Federal Election Commission data, Politico reported.

The campaign for Vindman, launched Jan. 27, ended the quarter with $6 million in cash.

The first-quarter haul includes small-dollar contributions, with an average donation of $39.44. Campaign officials said 27,600 contributions came from Floridians.

Moody, a Trump-endorsed Republican whom Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed to the Senate after Marco Rubio became secretary of state, raised $2.6 million and transferred $3.2 million from other authorized committees in 2025, ending the year with $5 million cash on hand.

Moody's fundraising from January through March will not be reported until the April 15 deadline.

In a statement, Vindman accused Moody of ignoring voters.

"Floridians [are] sick and tired of the corruption by career politicians like Ashley Moody who enable all of it," Vindman said.

Vindman gained national attention as a witness in the impeachment inquiry into first-term President Donald Trump. Vindman testified about Trump's 2019 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Several other Democrats are competing in the Aug. 18 primary, including state Rep. Angie Nixon of Jacksonville, tech executive Hector Mujica, former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, Paul Ron Cruz, and others.

Florida remains a challenging state for Democrats; Republicans hold a nearly 1.5-million-voter-registration advantage.

The Cook Political Report rates the Senate race as solid Republican. Moody faces no major GOP challengers and won statewide elections twice as attorney general by margins larger than DeSantis'.

Democrats have shown recent gains, flipping two state legislative seats last week with support from independents and some Republicans. Still, history suggests strong fundraising does not guarantee success in the state. Former Rep. Val Demings raised substantial funds in 2022 but lost to Rubio by more than 16 points.

Vindman has said his campaign aims to address broader issues of accountability rather than focus solely on Trump. Moody recently joined the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Full donor details for Vindman's first quarter will become public with the April 15 FEC filing.

The Republican National Committee has criticized Vindman as a "carpetbagger and a grifter" whose campaign is "doomed from the start."

"Ashley Moody will continue to be a champion for the America First agenda, delivering the largest middle-class tax cut in history, securing our border, keeping communities safe, and putting more money back in the pockets of Florida families," RNC spokesperson Emma Hall said.
