Impeaching President Donald Trump will make many donors not want to give money to his campaign, Rep. Al Green told MSNBC on Sunday.

The Texas Democrat also suggested that even if Trump is impeached in the House, a Senate hurdle follows but that a good many people won’t want to hold fundraisers with an impeached president.

"A good many people who won’t want to be in his company because he will become persona non grata to a good many of these wealthy people benefitting from his bigotry," Green added.

Green stressed that “It is one thing to want to defeat the president at the polls.

"But it’s another thing to understand that we have to impeach the philosophy that he’s perpetrating upon society. If we impeach the philosophy, we take on a broader threat to society than just defeating him at the polls,” adding that “The way to impeach that philosophy… is to impeach this president.”

Green harshly criticized Trump, calling him a “beneficial bigot.”

He explained that he coined this term, “Because (Trump) benefits those who will be meeting soon to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to his campaign. He has benefitted the clergy, which is supposed to be the backbone and corner stone of decency, by giving them the judges that they want. He has benefitted the rich and the powerful by giving them the tax cut that they want.”

Green stressed that Trump “has benefitted them to the extent that they will tolerate his bigotry. And When you tolerate bigotry, you perpetuate bigotry.”
