Seven people have been charged with illegally blocking traffic near the Capitol in Washington, D.C., in connection with an abortion-related protest The Hill has reported.
"Protesters are illegally blocking traffic on Independence Avenue, near New Jersey Avenue," the Capitol Police tweeted on Thursday. "We gave the crowd multiple warnings to get out of the street. 7 people who refused to clear the street are going to be charged with D.C. Code §22-1307 -crowding, obstructing, or incommoding."
The tweet did not mention whether the protest was being held by anti-abortion activists or those favoring abortion. According to the Hill, Capitol Police said it was "unclear" which side the protesters were on.
