It might be banned in China and other countries, but here in the United States there’s a crypto craze. Thousands of crypto fanatics are in Florida for a major conference on the topic.
The Miami area is cementing its reputation as the center of the crypto universe as it hosts bitcoin 2022.
"It’s the largest bitcoin conference in the World, in what feels like the capital of the World right now, and it’s the capital because it embraces freedom," said bitcoiner Brock Pierce.
Just last month, President Joe Biden signed an executive order on ensuring responsible development of digital assets.
"When people are growing in this type of demand, this type of scale, you know, regulation is going to come," said one attendee. "But in the end, I think, pushing forward with the green power it’s kind of the way to go, whether people want it or not, it’s coming."
"I think that crypto needs regulation in order for it to become widespread, well it’s already widespread, but to become more widespread, to be more trusted, there needs to be government regulations," said another conference attendee.
Just this morning, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen delivered a speech on cryptocurrencies outlining the agency’s view on the matter.
"The development of digital assets technologies is consistent with our values and laws — this underscores my final lesson: We need to work together to ensure responsible innovation," stated Yellen.
The Secretary added that regulation should be tech neutral.
