Following the disappointing outcome in the failed recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., conservatives should now focus for their efforts on the 2021 Virginia Governor's race.

Old Dominion is poised to be an essential election regarding government at the state level across America shifting toward a Republican momentum. This cannot be more evident than how close the race is between the Republican nominee (and businessman) Glenn Youngkin and Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe.

Virginia is rebounding off of the tumultuous gubernatorial term of incumbent Ralph Northam. Northam faced both statewide and national criticism during his tenure due to his own controversial statements regarding genocidal abortion, as well as his collegiate yearbook photo which portrayed him as either a KKK member or of Northam dressing in blackface.

In addition to these past controversies, Northam was accused of being an authoritarian by many in Virginia because of mass school closures and business restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic.

Many Virginians are ready for a new governor.

That person does not need to be Terry McAuliffe. McAuliffe already served as the predecessor to Ralph Northam, as the 72nd governor of the state from 2014-2018. There is not much to brag about when it comes to McAuliffe's tenure.

For example, while Virginia prospered economically as governor, McAuliffe attempted to lie and say he turned the "largest budget deficit" into a surplus.

The claim, of course, is false and has been dictated as so by every fact-checker imaginable.

If McAuliffe has to lie about his record as governor, especially economically, he does not deserve to have the chance at another term.

Virginians deserve a better leader than a man who promises to ban firearms and impose his authoritarian will on the state.

The clear choice in this race is Glenn Youngkin. He is a consistent constitutional conservative, one that Republicans and Independents alike can flock to.

Youngkin is the obvious 2nd amendment candidate who will strive to promote pro-life policies; those which will protect the unborn.

In terms of helping Virginia's economy, he wants to cut the state's income tax.

Currently Virginia's state income tax makes it unnecessarily difficult for parents to care for their families. Youngkin also wants to cut job-killing regulations.

Glenn Youngkin is also not beholden to outside interests or corporate interests either.

Employing practical business sense, he has self-funded his entire campaign; a campaign thus far free of controversies.

Youngkin is the type of GOP candidate conservatives from all walks of life can rally around. Youngkin's opposition to COVID-19 mandates appeal to libertarians; his tax cut program makes him attractive to Reagan conservatives.

His passion for working on behalf of Virginians, instead of on behalf of corporations and Richmond bureaucrats, appeals to every citizen.

After seeing the passion dedicated nationally to Larry Elder as he ran to potentially replace Newsom in California, conservatives should shift similar interests and energies toward Youngkin's efforts to be Virginia's 74th governor. He is not only the right candidate for the governorship but is trending toward being a significant voice nationally — in and for the GOP.

Youngkin is the right choice not only for conservatives but all Virginians. It is time to rally.
