In last week’s column, it was proposed that President Trump challenge Joe Biden to a series of 50 debates, one in each state to frame the issues we Americans must confront, while considering the choice before us this November.
The Biden press conference of approximately one week ago left a great deal to be desired.
It called into question Joe Biden's ability to assume and navigate the U.S. presidency.
The questions were scripted from favorable reporters from the AP, MSNBC, as well as from a local Maryland newspaper.
Some even say Biden was answering the questions from a teleprompter.
To "mix it up," Trump must apply his uncanny sixth sense about the moment at hand.
This is the great task that the media, as of late, seems unwilling or worse unprepared to do.
So lets start debates with hard-hitting questions for Biden.
Question No. 1: China. It’s hard to believe that there were no questions about China at the Biden press conference. Not one? Perhaps asking Biden, how he expects to remain impartial with China given the history that his family has with Chinese leadership?
Question No. 2: Biden attacked the presdent's decision to ban travel from China in January of this year, due to the coronavirus outbreak. Considering what he knows today, was this a mistake on his part for engaging in this criticism?
Question No. 3: Does Joe Biden really believe police departments, nationwide, should be defunded?
Question No. 4: What did Biden know about the decision to go after Trump and the Jan. 5 White House meeting, in which, according to notes from former FBI official Andrew McCabe, Biden suggested the use of the Logan Act against former U.S. National Security Adviser Gen. Michael Flynn?
Question No. 5: Who is responsible for transferring the manufacturing of medical supplies and drugs overseas over the last administration, or for that matter, the last 30 years?
Question No. 6: Explain your vote in favor of sending troops into Iraq?
Question No. 7: How does Biden respond to criticism from Former Defense Secretary Robert "Bob" Gates claiming that all of the former vice president's foreign policy decisions were wrong?
Question No. 8: Do you think the trade bills you voted for over the years sent too many American jobs overseas?
Question No. 9: Did you vote for the 1994 Crime Bill which unfairly and disproportionately placed more Blacks in jail?
Question No. 10: Will you release your medical records inclusive of many of cognitive tests you say you 've taken?
The sad thing about campaign 2020 is that these important questions may never be asked of Biden.
This is why Trump must.
As suggested in last week’s column, the chances are that Biden will not agree to 50 state debates with Trump. He might even not agree to the three scheduled.
But here’s the problem for Biden that is an advantage for Trump, the marketing genius: When Biden fails to show up, Trump could debate an empty chair representing Biden and answer questions from the local press.
One could only imagine what the president would do and say if Biden fails to show.
Team Biden is running a campaign that is currently strong in the polls, but it can be crushed with the right moves by the Trump. Right now the campaign is all about Trump, and that's not always positive. Trump's campaign must make it about both men and why Trump when all is said and done is the best alternative.
And when our nation's 45th president does that, it will be readily apparent that it's always easier to win when one has marketing and branding at the forefront of their mind.
