With the Brexit Party headed toward a smashing win in the race for seats in the European Parliament from Britain on May 23-26, the obvious question is whether the 5-year-old party committed to making Brexit happen will contest the next general election in the United Kingdom.

Newsmax posed this question via text message to Brexit Party founder Nigel Farage Thursday morning. Farage texted back: "It will."

Farage's message cames as pollsters in the U.K. who have been covering the European parliamentary elections have recently begun to pose a hypothetical question asking which party the voters would support in a general election.

In results that could only be called stunning, an Opinium poll released earlier this week showed the Brexit Party would collect 24 percent of the vote, compared to 27 percent for the Labour Party led by far-leftist Jeremy Corbyn.

Opinium also found the Conservatives, whose leadership Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to relinquish in days, would come in third.

The Conservatives are sure to pick a new leader this summer who will immediately succeed May as prime minister. But given their mediocre poll numbers, Conservatives are clearly reluctant to submit to a general election soon and face the prospect of a "Prime Minister Corbyn."

Johnny Mercer, Member of Parliament and considered a potential future leader in Conservative ranks, told the Independent last week his party would be "wiped out" and Corbyn would become prime minister if there is a "snap" election.
