As committed as the president is to achieving three priorities in immigration reform, the White House on Monday would not say that his support is “in cement” on the measures he is committed to: ending “chain migration,” ending the “diversity lottery” status, and obtaining appropriations to build the wall along the Mexican border.
“We've been clear those are our priorities when it comes to immigration,” press secretary Sarah Sanders said in response to Newsmax Tuesday.
When pressed if that meant the president’s support for those priorities were non-negotiable, Sanders told me, “These are the priorities we want to see in the package, and we're going to negotiate that with Congress.”
Sanders added that “I think I've said it about 30 times already today — those are the priorities and the principles that we've outlined, that we want to see in any legislative package that the president signs.”
