The news accounts of August 2018 verify America is in crisis mode. Such a crisis America has never experienced in size and scope. Even the crazy political events of 1968 cannot match the divisiveness and brawling of 2018.
America of August 2018 looks like and acts like a country at war with itself.
The American street brawling and anti-Trump “political maelstrom” is led by radicals including, but not limited to; People Demanding Action party (An arm of Progressive Democrats of America), Socialist-Democrats, Democrats, anarchists, Black Lives Matter, Working Families Party, various factions of the Communist Party, Soros Globalists and subsets, and numerous extreme-left groups vying to take down President Trump. A few alt-right groups receive more press than they deserve, as their numbers are minimal.
Meanwhile, anti-Trump talking heads dominate mainstream and cable television, 24/7. Anti-Trump conversations and “hate speech” drown out all national news on the major networks and cable news, except Fox News.
The U.S. military actions in the Middle East receive little coverage. The Russian collusion with Trump and the Republican's reports are now occasional blurbs. Putin has been relegated to an also ran. North Korea gets a modicum of attention once and awhile. Paul Manafort’s activities dominate the news, off and on. Manafort awaits a verdict in a Mueller prosecution of alleged tax actions in 2005-2007.
The coverage of Brett Kavanaugh, to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, has been sporadic. Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI-D), without ever speaking with Kavanaugh, voiced her opposition, as did most Democrat senators. It is reported Baldwin is in a serious re-election battle, so now she will meet with Kavanaugh.
Over the last months, former Obama CIA Director John Brennan revved up attacks on Trump, stating Trump was a treasonous tyrant. After Trump revoked his top-secret clearance on August 15, Brennan increased his constant bellowing of vitriolic verbal assaults against Trump. A number of former CIA Directors and employees support Brennan because they believe Trump is punishing free speech. They are actually trying to protect the integrity of the CIA.
Brennan has a questionable personal history. An Irish Catholic by birth and Catholic school educated, he voted for the Russian-controlled Communist presidential candidate, Gus Hall, in 1976. Brennan’s life appears to be a tangled web of psychological strands woven into an ignominious puzzle.
The Atlantic of August 8, 2018, featured a story about Anna Eskamani, a 28 year-old running for Florida House District 47. A first-time candidate, she had a background in politics working for Planned Parenthood. Eskamani is another icon of the progressive left of the Democrat Party, thus, The Atlantic gave her national exposure.
On August 9, 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the newly minted alt-left political icon, banned local news-media from her Queens townhall meeting. According to the Queens Chronicle, her campaign wanted the constituents to have an open discussion of concerns. Ocasio-Cortez endorses abolishing ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement, part of U.S. Department of Homeland Security), open borders, Medicare for all, and prison reform — the Socialist agenda.
Ilhan Omar, a Muslim woman born in Somalia, migrated into the United States as refugee at the age of 12. In Minnesota on August 14, she won the Democrat primary to be a U.S. Representative — District 5. She beat five other Democrats for Keith Ellison’s (D) House seat. Ellison, also a Muslim, is running for Minnesota Attorney General.
Omar is a standard Socialist-Democrat. She favors abolishing ICE, open borders, Medicare for all, $15 an hour minimum wage, Justice reform, and other Socialist platitudes.
Omar was quoted as saying, “But we also need the people on the streets and at our doors with the bullhorn, screaming for what they care about.” (Fader, by Eamon Whalen, March 14, 2017)
Ocasio-Cortez and Omar won as Socialist-Democrats in ethnic-minority majority districts. Eskamani won in a white-majority district, however the Republican candidates for the district seat are in a heated battle, but the seat should remain Republican. In each of the three districts, immigration is or was an influencing election factor.
On August 15, 2018, New York Democrat Governor, Andrew Cuomo announced, “… America was never that great,” mocking President Trump’s motto, “Make America great again.” Cuomo was plainly appealing to the radical Left of the country. Cuomo’s gubernatorial primary opponent, Cynthia Nixon, mocked him for the statement, opining Cuomo was trying to be a Left Progressive.
The remaining days of August offer more political intrigue and surprises.
