White House: No Short Term Debt Extension

Wednesday, 20 July 2011 01:48 PM EDT

WASHINGTON- President Barack Obama remains opposed to a short term extension of the U.S. borrowing limit without a bipartisan deal on long-term deficit reduction, the White House said Wednesday.

White House press secretary Jay Carney also said Obama wholly supported the approach taken by a group of Democratic and Republican senators to cut the U.S. deficit by $3.7 trillion through spending cuts and tax increases.
