Dem Weiner: Supreme Court May Overturn Obamacare Mandate

Not every Democrat agrees with the view that the U.S. Supreme Court will uphold the healthcare reform law’s requirement that individuals purchase health insurance. Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., is one who doesn’t share that view, The Hill reports.

The Supreme Court may well rule that the so-called “individual mandate” is unconstitutional, Weiner said during a conference call Wednesday, according to The Hill. "I think there's a pretty good chance that the Supreme Court will strike down the mandate."

The issue will represent a major focus in the 2012 election campaign, he said, adding: “I don't believe that this debate is going away. I don't represent the hide-under-your-desk wing of the Democratic Party. I think we've got to go forward into this."
