Perry Swipes at Washington Leadership on Cal Tour

Thursday, 30 June 2011 05:04 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry — a potential presidential candidate — is lashing out at Washington leadership on a trip through California.

The Republican governor talked about limiting the reach of the federal government on Thursday in Beverly Hills, where he met with a roomful of CEOs who could become fundraisers if Perry decides to jump into the 2012 campaign.

Attorney David Fleming, who attended the private event, says Perry also joked that his wife is nudging him to seek higher office.

Fleming says Perry didn’t disclose a decision on his possible candidacy.

Perry is on a two-day swing in California that has stoked speculation that he will enter the Republican contest.

Perry called the federal government "rudderless" in a speech at a Boy Scouts ceremony Wednesday in San Diego.
