NYC Mayor Says Independent President a Good Idea

Monday, 01 November 2010 08:36 PM EDT

NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says an independent president has more chance at succeeding than a Republican or a Democrat.

Bloomberg is a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent. He has said unequivocally he won't run for president in 2012. But during a forum at Harvard University on Monday he endorsed the idea of an independent in the White House.

Bloomberg says an independent would be better at bringing the two major parties together on Capitol Hill.

The billionaire mayor toyed with a third-party run in 2008. He's serving his third term as mayor.
