Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., is expressing optimism that Congress’s supercommittee will meet its Thanksgiving deadline to lop $1.2 trillion from the federal budget. Toomey. who is a member of the committee, said he was “cautiously optimistic” the group will reach a consensus, the
National Journal reported.
“There has been progress,” he said on MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" program. “There are very substantive discussions going on virtually every day.”
He added that the 12 senators and members of the House are “not quite there yet.”
In the interview, Toomey also asserted that President Barack Obama’s jobs bill has failed. “I do think that the combination of unsustainable spending, excessive regulation, and a ridiculously complicated tax code definitely has an accumulative effect on our economy,” he said according to the Journal.
