If former Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., knows what he’s talking about, Republicans will have plenty of reason to celebrate Nov. 30 – 50 reasons to be exact. That’s h
ow many House seats he thinks the GOP
will pick up in Nov. 2 elections, Roll Call reports.
And Davis is no screaming extremist. He’s president of The Republican Main Street Partnership, a group of moderate Republicans, and was chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee for two terms.
Republicans may take even more seats in historically Democratic districts than expected, with GOP candidates limited only by the amount of money they need to spend, Davis says.
“I think [the GOP] will net 50 plus, and I think it’s more likely to go up than down,” he told reporters Thursday. Most new voters who supported Democrats in 2008 are “asleep,” Davis said. And independents greatly prefer Republicans.
