By    |   Saturday, 09 July 2011 06:53 PM EDT

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter took a swipe at fellow Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Saturday, saying he is more Thaddeus McCotter, Mitt Romney, Barack Obamalike a running mate for President Barack Obama than a rival.

In an interview with Fox News, the Michigan congressman said: "We have Obama as the champion of big government, we see Romney as champion of bailout banks in the Wall Street bailout. They are less rivals than they are running mates."

McCotter's comment came a day after he used his Twitter account to draw comparisons between Romney and Obama. "Unemployment rising, people struggling in the Obama-Romney economy," he wrote.

According to Reuters, the five-term congressman from the Detroit suburbs is a strong supporter of the car industry and backed the industry bailout, but he has appealed to tea party conservatives with calls for a fundamental restructuring of government.
