No Senate Republicans Back Obama Tax Plan

Monday, 13 September 2010 12:50 PM EDT

WASHINGTON - Republicans in the U.S. Senate have enough votes to block President Barack Obama's plan to extend tax cuts for the middle class while allowing those on the richest Americans to expire, a senior Senate Republican spokesman said on Monday.

"There are no Republicans who support a tax hike and there is a growing chorus of Democrats who oppose it as well," said Don Stewart, spokesman for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

Stewart declined to say whether Senate Republicans would actually block action on the plan.
