A previously secret report by the Department of Justice reveals that the United States created a "saf
e haven" for former Nazis after World War II ended. According to The New York Times, the 600-page report provides details on dozens of cases relating to ex-Nazis and "the government's collaboration with persecutors."
The Times story says the DOJ report concluded that "America, which prided itself on being a safe haven for the persecuted, became -- in some small measure -- a safe haven for persecutors as well."
And although the government has stated in the past that about 10,000 former Nazis made it into the United States after the war, the DOJ report says the actual number was much smaller.
