Gov. Walker: Wis. Budget Law ‘Truly Progressive’

Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker isn’t shrinking back in fear after engineering passage of a budget bill that ended collective Scott Walker, Wisconsin, Budget Bill, Unionsbargaining rights for public workers. He offered a principled defense of the new law in testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, The Hill reports

Given Wisconsin’s serious fiscal distress, the bill represented a "modest request" for public workers, he said.

“In Wisconsin, we are doing something truly progressive. In addition to holding the line on spending and finding efficiencies in state government, we are implementing long term budget reforms focused on protecting middle class jobs and middle class taxpayers," Walker said in his prepared testimony.

"Even federal employees pay more than twice what we are asking state and local government workers to pay [for pensions and health insurance,] and most of them don't have collective bargaining for wages and benefits."
