Palin's SarahPAC Doles Out Cash to Bachmann, GOP Candidates

By    |   Wednesday, 02 September 2009 08:12 AM EDT

Sarah Palin’s political action committee, SarahPAC, released a statement Monday that it is supporting several prominent Republican conservatives, including Michele Bachman political contributions that now gives the organization new status with the Federal Elections Commission.

SarahPAC is now a multi-candidate political action committee, and its list is growing. By surpassing the FEC’s five-candidate contribution minimum, SarahPAC now operates under a different set of rules that will allow it to contribute larger amounts to candidates.

The list of conservative members of Congress already receiving SarahPAC contributions includes:

  • Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota

  • Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska

  • Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina

  • Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah

  • Sen. John McCain of Arizona

  • Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee

  • Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell

A spokeswoman for SarahPAC confirmed that Palin, the former governor of Alaska and running mate to McCain, donated $1,000 to each of the sitting Republicans, as well as $2,500 to Virginia gubernatorial hopeful Bob McDonnell, CNN reports. With its new federal election law multi-candidate PAC status, SarahPAC can now contribute up to $10,000 to a candidate per cycle.

Palin, the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential nominee, has said she left office early as governor of Alaska to focus on other candidates in order to advance the conservative agenda. She is currently working on a book and, according to her father, is “steering clear of the media spotlight.”

Palin’s Facebook community, which she uses to keep in touch with supporters, consists of more than 800,000 followers and brought in $733,000 in the first six months of the year.
