Talk show host Rush Limbaugh blasted Republican and other critics of Delaware sensation Christine O’Donnell, a tea party-backed candidate who won an upset victory Tuesday night in the GOP senate primary.
Limbaugh, half-jokingly, suggested that GOP leaders who had declared O’Donnell unelectable should focus on unelectable Democrats. But he quickly added that it was his job to declare who was and was not electable.
Limbaugh also suggested that much of the criticism toward O’Donnell was sexist. He compared critiques of O’Donnell to the continuing controversy over Hispanic TV reporter Ines Sainz, who reportedly was sexually harrassed by New York Jets players as she tried to get an interview with the team’s quarterback.
“You can throw the kitchen sink and the toilet bowl and its contents at Republican female candidates and no one is accused of picking on the girl,” Limbaugh said on his show. “If you are a Republican you can attack a Republican woman left and right and not even the liberated pansies in the sportswriter media will come out and attack you. You can say about Christine O'Donnell whatever you want to say, and nobody accuses you of picking on the girl.
“We can dump all over a Republican woman,” Limbaugh added later in the show. “Republicans can throw the kitchen sink and the toilet at her, as happened last night on Fox. We can talk about her character rectitude, her honesty, how come it took her so long to go through college and all that, but let somebody talk about some realities of this Mexican TV reporter in a football locker room.”
Limbaugh was referring to a criticism of O’Donnell as unelectable by none other than GOP strategist Karl Rove on Fox News Tuesday night.
