Limbaugh: Real Cuts in Budget Deal Only $2 Billion

By    |   Wednesday, 13 April 2011 06:16 AM EDT

Radio pundit Rush Limbaugh says the actual amount of additional spending cuts in the 2011 budget deal reached Friday pales beside the $38.5 billion announced — the real figure is $2 billion. Limbaugh, repeating an oft-made charge since the compromise was released, said Tuesday the higher number results from creative accounting.

limbaugh, cuts, budget, dealLimbaugh said on his nationally syndicated radio show the $38.5 billion figure was attained by tacking on to the final agreement tally $12 billion in cuts from each of three previous stopgap continuing resolutions.

“In other words, old money,” Limbaugh said on his nationally syndicated radio show. “$12 billion of the $38.5 billion came from old CRs, three stopgaps. Now, we talked about this yesterday: It had been said that $10 billion of it was from a previous CR.”

“We couldn't find any documentation,” he continued. “We did overnight — and the number of real cuts in this continuing resolution that was agreed to on Friday night was $2 billion.”

Limbaugh detailed the cuts, as reported in a story in The Hill, noting they amounted to “accounting-error-type things.”

“These are the kind of things the green-eye-shade guys miss after a long day in the office,” Limbaugh said. “At any rate here, the bottom line is that $2 billion in cuts in this final continuing resolution is how we got to the 38.”
