Romney Ad Flips Tables on Obama's China Pledge

By    |   Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:32 PM EDT

Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney is hitting President Barack Obama hard on the China issue. On Thursday, he will visit an Ohio company, Screen Machine Industries, whose president, Steve Cohen, appears in a new Romney ad that continues the former Massachusetts governor’s attack on Obama over economic policy and jobs.

Cohen specifically raps Obama concerning China. “President Obama has stated that he was going to literally take China to the mat,” Cohen says in the video, which includes footage of Obama saying just that.

Story continues below video.

But China isn’t respecting Screen Machine Industries’ intellectual property rights, Cohen says. “In fact, there are some companies in China that take pictures of our machines and white out the name of our company and imprint their own name,” he explains.

“So if someone in China or the U.S. looks up this website, it will look like they’re selling our machines [legitimately] in China.”

Cohen’s company wants to create and maintain new jobs, he says. But “what we have with the Obama administration isn’t helping our company to expand and isn’t creating the atmosphere to allow us to create new jobs.”
