WASHINGTON — The head of the Republican Party says no negative vibes should be inferred from the GOP's inability, so far, to coalesce around a candidate to challenge President Barack Obama.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus told ABC's "Good Morning America" today that it's very early and described the GOP presidential contest as "a horse race."
"We'll get there and we'll have a nominee pretty quickly," he said. Asked whether a muddled contest might be problematical, Priebus replied, "I don't know if I would get too uptight over that."
Priebus said he isn't worried about a third-party candidate, saying that probably would pose a greater threat to Obama than the GOP.
"I just think America is ready to put a person in the White House who can make a promise and keep a promise," the GOP chairman said.
