Super PAC Backing Gingrich Slams 'Liberal Republican Establishment'

Wednesday, 28 December 2011 02:50 PM EST

A group that supports Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has begun airing a television ad in Iowa to combat the negative ads of his rivals that have been slamming him there for weeks.

“Don’t let the liberal Republican establishment pick our candidate,” says a narrator, who also contends that the candidate’s rivals have “outspent Newt Gingrich 20 to 1.”

Story continues below video.

The super PAC Winning Our Future’s spot frames Gingrich as a “principled conservative” who is primed to do battle against “radical judges” and abortion rights. It also notes that the candidate spurred welfare reform and balanced the budget while he was in Congress.

The ad will air until Jan. 2, the day before the caucuses in Iowa, the super PAC says.

Gingrich’s own ad, featuring clips from his strong performances during recent debates, also is running in Iowa.
