Poll: Pelosi Hasn't Cleaned Up Capitol Hill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised to clean up Congress’ ethics problems when she took over the gavel in 2006. But most voters in hotly contested congressional districts say she’s failed, according to a poll from The Hill/AGNA.

In 12 competitive districts surveyed, 57 percent of likely voters say Congress’ ethical woes have worsened since President Obama took office in January 2009. That compares to 32 percent who say the situation hasn’t changed. Only 7 percent say the situation has improved.

In 2006, Pelosi pledged to “drain the swamp” of congressional misdeeds and oversee the “most ethical and honest Congress in history.”Apparently the water is still dirty. And Republicans may well benefit, with focus centering on ethics controversies for Democrats such as Reps. Charles Rangel of New York and Maxine Waters of California.
