WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he'll be re-elected for a second term next year if voters feel like he's been on their side, working as hard as he can and getting things done.
And if they don't, the president says, he'll lose.
The blunt political assessment from Obama cast his re-election fight as a referendum on his leadership rather than a choice between him and another candidate. Obama did add that, in his words, "that's not to say that the other candidate is irrelevant."
But he said that he'll probably win or lose depending on how voters judge his stewardship.
The president made his comments Wednesday in an interview with KMBC-TV in Kansas City, Mo.
