Oklahoma's Coburn: GOP Must Repeal Obamacare

Tuesday, 26 October 2010 04:02 PM EDT

President Barack Obama’s occupancy of the White House will make it difficult for Republicans to repeal the new healthcare law, as they will need support from two-thirds of Congress to overturn a veto. But that shouldn’t stop the GOP from trying, says Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., The Hill reports.

Tom Coburn, health care, Obamacare, Oklahoma"I think the best strategy is to call for a repeal bill and pass that bill," he told a group of conservative bloggers. "And if you can't pass it the first time, then offer it again the next month, and offer it again the next month."

Retiring Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., said last week that the GOP should try to reform Obamacare instead of repealing it. That upset some conservatives, who are dead set on repeal.

The conservatives probably don’t need to worry about the Senate. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says Senate Republicans are "committed" to repeal.
