NEW YORK -- There is no agreement between federal prosecutors and Eliot Spitzer, who announced on Wednesday that he was resigning as governor of New York state, a federal prosecutor said.
"There is no agreement between this Office and Governor Eliot Spitzer, relating to his resignation or any other matter," U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Michael Garcia said in a statement.
Spitzer resigned amid a scandal over a report that he hired a $1,000-an-hour prostitute. There had been media speculation that he might make an agreement with prosecutors in the case before resigning.
