As congressional campaigns move into their final five weeks, the National Republican Congressional Committee plans to move money away from co
ngressional shoo-ins to races that are close. As of last
weekend, the NRCC had doled out a little less than $6 million in 31 races, Roll Call reports.
Some of those contests were already known to be pitched battles, such as the districts of Democratic Reps. Bobby Bright (Alabama) and Tom Perriello (Virginia).
But now the GOP is adding more races, such as Republican Ilario Pantano’s effort to knock off incumbent Democratic Rep. Mike McIntyre in North Carolina.
The NRCC so far has planned to spend $35 million in 55 districts but may end up adding 10 races to the list by mid-October, knowledgeable Republicans tell Roll Call.
