Huckabee: 'Toxic' Political Atmosphere Got Me Out

By    |   Tuesday, 02 August 2011 10:29 PM EDT

Former GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee opened up on the 700 Club, saying he couldn't stay in the race for the White House in 2012 because it's a no-win situation for any candidate. The atmosphere in Washington is "toxic," he said, adding that that made his decision to to stay out of the race easier.

Huckabee, former Arkansas governor, warned his party about the hunt for the perfect candidate: "I was closer than most people think to jumping in . . . But when it got down to it I felt like the atmosphere right now was so toxic. And part of it is that I think many people in my party, the Republican Party, are unrealistic and what they want is something that no one can deliver. And that is a candidate who is going to solve every problem in an election cycle."
