Ex-RNC Chief Michael Steele Becomes MSNBC Analyst

By    |   Monday, 23 May 2011 12:20 PM EDT

Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele is becoming an MSNBC political analyst, effective immediately, the network announced Monday.

Michael Steele, RNC, MSNBCSteele, a frequent guest on MSNBC, will appear regularly on the full lineup of MSNBC programming as part of the network's analysts and contributors, a network news release said.

“It’s an honor to contribute and engage in the dialogue on MSNBC,” Steele said. “I look forward to engaging a diverse audience to share insights and analysis about the people, issues, and events shaping America’s future. I’m sure our discussions will be both informative and a bit spirited!”

MSNBC President Phil Griffin said Steele's "strong voice and opinions will be a great addition to all of our programs.”

Steele, who was the first black president of the RNC, is president and CEO of The Steele Group, a business development company he started in 1999.

Although he steered the party through major midterm election victories, the RNC chose Wisconsin GOP party chief Reince Priebus to replace him at the helm in January.
