MSNBC hosts Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell disagree on President Barack Obama’s speech on Standard & Poor’s downgrade of America’s credit rating.
Mitchell said during a live exchange on MSNBC Monday that she thinks the president showed confidence in his insistence that the United States is “still a triple-A country.”
But Matthews countered that he believes Obama has dropped the ball and that the parties need stronger leadership to build consensus on tough economic issues, according to

“I think it still needs some sort of engine to make this happen, and I don’t think the president is the engineer anymore,” Matthews said. “I don’t think he’s running the train. I think we’re basically stalled as a country politically right now.”
