Istook: Obama’s about Fear not Hope

Monday, 11 October 2010 10:39 AM EDT

President Obama is relying on scare tactics to frighten Americans into voting for Democrats, says Ernest Istook, a former Republican congressman from Oklahoma who is now a distinguished fellow at The Heritage Foundation. That’s a way to divert attention from White House failures, he writes on
Politico.

obama, message, about, fear“More and more, President Obama relies on projecting fear rather than hope,” Istook says. “He creates a series of bogeymen to argue against. His obvious goal is to convince Americans that the alternatives are even worse than his own failed policies.”

Istook says Obama is trying to put the blame on his predecessor. “He rails against former President Bush. He denounces the eight years that preceded his election. He paints business, bankers, even the Chamber of Commerce as villains. Obama sees bogeymen everywhere. His style depends on imaginary monsters under the bed, to distract the public from his own team's record.”
