Republican Reps. Darrell Issa and Sam Graves are unhappy with Office of Management and Budget Director Jack Lew. He declined to testify Thursday at a joint hearing of their committees to discuss a draft presidential order that would make companies who want government contracts reveal their political contributions.
And now the two Republicans indicate they may use a subpoena to force Lew’s hand,
Politico reports.
Issa chairs the Oversight & Government Reform Committee, while Graves heads the Small Business Committee.
Lew wrote in a letter Friday, “Unfortunately, because this hearing concerns a draft presidential executive order that is still moving through the standard review and feedback process, we will be unable to testify.”
Issa and Graves shot back in a letter Monday: “If the OMB continues to demonstrate an unwillingness to cooperate fully with the Committee’s oversight function, we will be required to consider the use of compulsory process.”
