Threatened House Democrats Avoid Reform Laws

House Democrats in danger of losing their seats are assiduously avoiding taking any credit for landmark legislation they passed during the past two years. That’s because the fiscal stimulus package, healthcare reform and even financial reform proved to be House Democrats, avoid taking credit, stimulus, healthcare, financial reform, Gerry Connolly, Keith Fimiangreatly unpopular with the electorate, The Hill reports.

Indeed, a Gallup poll shows only 18 percent of voters approve of the job Congress is doing. So House Democrats are rejecting their own accomplishments.

"It's not everyone's cup of tea," said Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., who is in danger of losing next month to Republican Keith Fimian. "Moderates and Blue Dogs in our caucus have grown increasingly antsy about that agenda and whether it was or is overly ambitious." Connolly voted for all three of the big Democratic bills in this Congress.
