Attorney Gen. Eric Holder Jr. made an unannounced visit to a mosque to talk with Muslim American youths while on a visit to Los Angeles this week.
What made the detour unusual is that Holder’s otherwise well-publicized visit didn’t announce the stopover to the news media or the public, according to The Los Angeles Times.
“The point was to engage the Muslim community here in Los Angeles and make sure they understand this administration’s commitment to work with that community,” Justice Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.
