Norquist: Christie Will Remain as Governor

By    |   Tuesday, 27 September 2011 02:50 PM EDT

As speculation swirls as to whether New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie will run for president, Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, suggests that Christie will stay as governor.

“Chris Christie would be a great president. He is, however, busy being a great governor,” Norquist writes on Politico. “Gov. Christie has already changed the nation. He was elected governor of New Jersey in 2009, and all the Republicans who won in 2010 had a model to follow.”

The new governors saw Christie prevail in his battle with teachers unions. That gave the governors heart that they also could fight teachers unions without being branded as “anti-teacher” or “anti-education,” Norquist says.

“Christie is the model for the wave of incoming governors in 2010. Whichever Republican wins the presidency in 2012, he or she will benefit from Chris Christie's continued success in NJ,” Norquist writes.
